During the 2022 Burton St Mall upgrade, Vincentia Matters and community members raised the possibility of installing EV chargers at the upper end of the Excellent St car park while it was being resurfaced. VM advocated with Shoalhaven City Council (SCC), successfully securing the installation of underground conduits beneath the bitumen as a first step in preparing the site for future chargers.

In response to community requests, VM formed a dedicated sub-group to explore installing EV charging stations. Working alongside RePower Shoalhaven, the team liaised with charging providers to support applications for NSW and federal government grants. 

In 2025 the VM sub-group met with the Mayor and employees of Shoalhaven City Council (SCC) to ensure that this site was included on the list of preferred sites submitted to the NSW government for funding support.

Shoalhaven was successful in securing funding and is receiving 19 new charging ports, including at Burton St Mall, Vincentia. 

Shoalhaven City Council (SCC) conducted broad community consultation regarding the location, publishing detailed site plans, including which car spaces would be used. The Vincentia Connections Hub promoted the consultation and community members were invited to make submissions. 90% of community respondents backed the location in Burton St Mall. 

The NRMA is installing the charging infrastructure and installation began in September 2026. The chargers are set to become operational in October 2026.
